Construction of the Garrido project complex, which brings together five power plants with a total capacity of 50.6 megawatts, was launched in September 20221. It reached full power after a gradual commissioning which began in March 20232. The first kilowatt hours concerned the sites of Vale Serrão (2.4 megawatts), Pinhal Novo (11.8 megawatts) and Alcochete (23.8 megawatts). The rest of the capacity, including that of the Oliveira de Frades (1.2 megawatts) and Antuzede (11.4 megawatts) sites, has just been connected to the network.

The entire capacity of the complex is secured by long-term Corporate PPA3s including that with the industrial BA Glass, a European leader in the production of hollow glass for the beverage and food industry. Companies that consume the carbon-free electricity produced will avoid the emission of 46,685 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.

“We are very excited to announce the full power of our Garrido complex. Portugal is a pioneer in Europe with a significant share of renewable energies in its energy mix. I thank all the teams for bringing this complex to fruition,” declares Sébastien Clerc, Managing Director of Voltalia.

“Garrido complex is a project that will allow the production of clean energy in large quantities and with a significant impact on the environment. Voltalia has charted a path of expansion in the production of renewable energy, with a strong focus on Portugal in its growth strategy”, says João Amaral, country manager at Voltalia Portugal.
