FPT Industrial takes to the ski slopes with its new engine

XC13 is the new hydrogen combustion engine from FPT Industrial, the powertrain brand of Iveco Group. Unveiled at IAA 2022, in Hannover, this equipment “is a first concept looking towards a complementary offer to accelerate the decarbonization process of the industrial applications sector”.

Its base engine has been developed in multiple versions, from diesel to natural gas. Including biomethane, hydrogen, and renewable fuels. By betting on this wide range of options, FPT Industrial intends to “offer maximum component standardization and facilitate integration into the final product”.

In the press release, they also say that the new XC13, the first multi-fuel single-base engine, “is an additional technology in FPT Industrial portfolio for zero CO2 emission solutions”. Something that offers customers “the familiarity they are used to with traditional machines”.

The first concept application of the XC13

Prinoth, the world leader in the production of snowploughs and tracked vehicles, has installed the new internal combustion engine from FPT Industrial in its Leitwolf h2motion. A concept vehicle of large dimensions and plenty of power developed with the preparation of slopes in larger ski resorts in mind.

The choice fell on a 13-litre, six-cylinder engine capable of producing 460 hp (338 kW) and 2,000 Nm of torque. The hydrogen fuel is stored, for an indicative running time of more than 3 hours, in five tanks mounted on the back of the machine.

Leitwolf h2motion “represents another step towards Prinoth’s goal of assembling a fully carbon-neutral fleet”. While FPT Industrial’s partnership with Prinoth “signals the two companies’ mutual commitment to sustainability in off-road applications”.
